ABC Wesnesday: Q

Q is for  QWERTY keyboard.

QWERTY (pronounced /ˈkwɝːti/) is the most used modern-day  keyboard layout on English-Language computer and typewriter keyboard. It takes its name from the first six characters  seen in the far left of the keyboard's top row of letters.

The layout was devised and created in the early 1870s by  Christopher Sholes, a newspaper editor  and printer who lived in Milwaukee.

Jama I enjoyed your entry. Which is originAl!! It brings back memories of how I practised Qwerty on a manual typewriter. My kids don't go through that shit and picked up typing au naturel.

qwerty - so easy for this non-typist to type! I?'m surprised 2 people used it as well.

Hi jama,

You did your research. Someone else also used this q word. I was told by my typing tutot why the keys were like this, so that the keys don't clash. I was a hopeless typist, I left after a month. I cheat and look at the key board, and I type with two fingers.

like i mentioned on rune's blog i find it remarkable that although i'm a two finger typist i can at least mostly type without looking at the keyboard - mind you trying to text on a mobile is something i simply find impossible.

Did you know that if all the letters come off your qwerty keyboard, you can still type (if you're a touch typist) but it is nonetheless challenging to get them all back in the right place? LOL!

Good one for 'Q'!

I didn't know who laid it out, always wonder why it is the way it is. :)
