FMTSO: PUBLIC ART

" Public Art is the way our various towns represent themselves to the outside world. By definition Public Art is artwork that is free, publicly displayed and tells the world something about us. In a more modern context it may be represented by a work that is more abstract and serves as a design element to bring a public building to life. " - this theme is chosen by Barry and Linda.

Art display in Promenade MRT Station.

27 winning artworks by Singapore youth that are based on the theme 'Aspirations for life in Singapore', can be found at the Youth Olympic Park .

"Wall Drawing #917, Arcs and Circles", conceived by late American artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007), redefined traditional concepts of discreet works of art - that wall drawings are to be considered ideas rather than objects.

And don't let its vibrant, playful forms fool you, too.

Each wall drawing is to conform painstakingly to Mr LeWitt's directions. They are handmade and require the execution and supervision of LeWitt trained artists as they are elaborate.

The work at the reception of Hotel Tower 1 of Marina Bay Sands Hotel  was recreated by American master artist Gabriel Hurier and Japanese master artist Takeshi Arita, who were assisted by a select group of four local artists handpicked by the Singapore Tyler Print Institute.

Another art piece at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel's lobby.

Art mural done by the Zheng Hua Secondary School stood proud at the entrance of the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

Sculptures at our famous shopping belt, the Orchard Road.

The beautiful tiles of the wading pool at Sentosa Island is a beautiful art piece to me.

I remember the Sentosa one. Always remember we left Sam's life vest in a washroom, 1/2 and hour later it was gone.

Some "modern" art is very nice, but mostly I think "artists" are making fun of us. I can say that being a painter myself, lol !
Selling living chicken is forbidden since a looooong time, I actually can't even remember that. In big towns you won't find that either in Morocco, but on the markets on the country side or in the souqs unfortunately yes. Poor things. I could never eat a chicken I have known life before !

You found striking and important examples of public art and it's hard to pick favorites here. Wow. I'm always a sucker for vibrant displays of kids' art, but I really dig the Sol LeWitt mural-which must be a big attraction in your town. Thanks for this great post.

Your art work depicts a vibrant, modern city! Makes we feel quite alive looking at it, despite the fact yours has to be the last blog I visit tonight or I will never wake in the morning. I'm glad I decided to linger a little longer and see yours, they are lovely images to take to bed with me.
