EMPS # 105 : NOSTALGIA

Anybody still have the old typewriter at home? I used to have one but when it became too difficult to get the ink ribbons for it, I dispose the typewriter away.
I remembered the noise it made when I first learn typing in school way back in the 70s and so many times my little fingers would get stuck between the keys.
Manual typewriter was essential in offices, until the electrical typewriter took over and then finally when the computers and printers were introduced, the typewriter has been graceful retired.

See the abacus next to the typewriter? that one is a must item to have in any Chinese shop for the shopkeeper to use to count in the olden days. I was intrigue by it as a young child and would ask the shopkeeper to teach me how to use it. But I think I prefer to just use the calculator , much faster!

I was growing up about the same time as you. My dad had a manual typewriter, and we all practised on it. I always cheated, just like now, i cheat and use two fingers to type.

We used to learn to count on an abacus when I was a child, but they haven't been used in schools for a very long time now! I doubt many young children today would even know what an abacus was!

I learned to type on a manual (noisy!) typewriter, too.

Hi Jama :)

Oh my, that does bring back some memories! Goodness, I haven't seen one of those in years! The sound, the ink of the ribbon. It's wonderful, but I think I am glad the word processor and computer came along! :) Excellent choice for the assignment!

I love this. We think of typewriters as being old, but that's nothing compared to the abacus!
